AROUND TOWN: Junior Achievement celebrates successes

Everest University Online received the top Spirit of Achievement Award from Junior Achievement of Southern Colorado on Aug. 14 at Garden of the Gods Club.

JA’s President/CEO David Loose celebrated a number of other successes and awards with the 82 guests.

JA’s new board members: Ilia Petkov, president and owner of IP Automation; Stanton Kensinger of Olive Real Estate Group, and Greg Tabor of FedEx.

Presenting sponsors of the 2012 JA Rock ‘N Bowl, which netted $108,000, were FedEx and Everest University Online. There were 1,100 bowlers dressed as “Heroes and Villains,” from Superman and Batman to Thor and Wonder Woman, Loose said.

More than 400 people attended “Fiesta,” the 18th Annual JA Gala Auction, which netted $65,000. Presenting sponsors honored: Schmidt Construction Co., FedEx Corp., Antlers Hilton hotel, Lockheed Martin Corp., El Pomar Foundation, Comcast and Wells Fargo Advisors.

The JA golf classic, sponsored by Xerox, netted $18,468.

The JA Breakfast and Calling for Kids Campaign brought in $114,642, Loose reported. This year’s JA Breakfast will be Oct. 9 at the Marriott Hotel.

The Castle Pines-Junior Achievement Invitational saw gross revenue of $39,750.

Loose reported that the 21st Century Skills Forum, which was created by Nancy Brown, involved more than 500 students in school districts 2, 11 and 20, local community colleges and universities.
