DAVID'S PICK: Early Romanticism: Music as Direct Expression

Special to The Gazette
Great art rewards with new insights as one learns more about specific musical forms and the context of their creation. Sure sounds like that's what Univeristy of Colorado at Colorado Springs Prof Colin McAllister is up to in his presentation for the National League of American Pen Women's Pikes Peak Branch. McAllister is a classical/jazz guitarist but he dons his musicological hat for a discussion of the origins of Romanticism in music to help differentiate it from Mozart and Haydn's Classical period. I love this kind of stuff -- and happily, there's not a hint of holiday to be found. It's $18 but that price includes lunch at the Blue Sage Restaurant, 5152 Centennial Blvd., on 11:30 a.m.Saturday.
