AROUND TOWN: 28 Debutantes part of a 45-year holiday tradition

Twenty-eight young women were part of a special 45-year Christmas holiday tradition when they were presented at the Colorado Springs Debutante Ball on Dec. 22 at the Broadmoor International Center.

Monies raised at the ball, totaling more than $525,000 over the years, benefit the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center’s ongoing acquisition fund, raising money for the center’s permanent collection.

The 2011 debutantes, who are freshmen at colleges throughout the country:

Brooke Ashley Becco, daughter of Drs. Gregory Joseph and Sherry Lee Becco. A  graduate of Air Academy High School.

Marissa Rita Bell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Richard Bell. A graduate of Air Academy High School.

Janae Lynn Boschert, daughter of Dean Allen Boschert and Dr. Laura Gale Boschert.  A graduate of The Colorado Springs School.

Anna Mary Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Charles Brown. A graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Renata Michelle Bucher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Kenneth Bucher. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School.

Ellen Pierson Fields, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pierson Fields. A graduate of The Colorado Springs School.

Marion Leigh Hamilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Gene Hamilton. A graduate of Air Academy High School.

Carolyn Mae Hammersmark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eugene Hammersmark. A graduate of Air Academy High School.

Rachel Nichole Miller, daughter of retired Lt. Col. Raymard Gene Miller and Barbara Howard Miller. A graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Abigail Jean Poremba, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edgar Paul Poremba. A graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Kaley Ann Rickert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Edward Rickert. A graduate of Palmer High School.

Samantha Whitney Sloan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gurney Poulson Sloan III. A graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Emily Elizabeth Venner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Steven Venner. A graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Susan Karabin Winston, daughter of Joseph Rowland Winston and Elizabeth Daniels Winston. A graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Sarah Bell Winter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Young Winter. A graduate of Air Academy High School.

The debs were presented to a receiving line: Dwight and Sue Tyson, Allen and Dede Benning,  and Nelson “Red” and Bunny Noland.

Also an official part of the black-tie tradition were several of the Post Debutantes who had been presented in 2010: Andie Aylward, Alex Anderson, Emily Evans, Chelsea Grant, Victoria Knox, Kristine Kurtz, Karly Lindroth-Yates, Emily Maloof, Haley McCann, Jennifer Nagl, Katharine Porter, Marissa Quintero, Kathleen Raskob and Vivian Snider. 

 
Members of the Deb Ball committee, who had successfully navigated through a snowy Colorado night, were: Dede Benning, Jennifer Oseth, Connie Dodge, Sue Murphy, Linda Grant, Diane Glaser, Alison Heintz, Barb Lewis, Alison Cutter, Jorji Raskob, Barb Van Ness, Cherryl Kilgore, Anna Bordelon, Carol Wetzig, Lori Kurtz, Jeannie Porter, Tanya Reilly and Debbie Garland.
