  • Cripple Creek's Thin Air Theatre Company is back for another season!

    THE GAZETTE

More good news for our local theater community. Cripple Creek’s Thin Air Theatre Company, whose continued existence had been “up in the air,” so to speak, got a well-deserved reprieve when the city of Cripple Creek decided to fund this little-theater-company-that-could for at least one more year.

Flush with this fortunate turn of events, TATC has quickly put together their 2010 season. They’ll be offering four shows, the same number as last year.

The Butte Opera House, where TATC performs, will also house a fifth show (”Rounding Third”) that’s not officially affiliated with the Thin Air Theatre Company but does feature two of its most popular performers: Mel Moser and Mickey Burdick.

Burdick says that Thin Air fans should be able to buy individual and season tickets on their web site within a week or so.

    The season offerings include:

    Rounding Third
    March 26-April 11

Described as “the Odd Couple with a baseball background,” this 2003 off-Broadway play centers on a pair of Little League coaches who have opposing philosophies toward baseball and life.

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown
    June 18-September 18

I saw this twice in just the last two years and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. With its heartwarming Peanuts characters and clever Clark Gesner score, this 1971 Broadway show should be a real crowd-pleaser.

Can we expect to see Mel as that show-stopping canine Snoopy?

Gunslinger: The Legend of Billy the Kid
    June 25-September 18

A brand new, original adaptation by Burdick of a 1906 melodrama about the legendary outlaw of the Old West.

    Werewolves of Poverty Gulch
    October 1-October 30

This Halloween offering is an original melodrama by regular Thin Air scribe Chris Sorenson.

    Angel of the Christmas Mine
    November 27-December 31

An old favorite last performed at the Butte in 2007, this original holiday play is about three miners trapped by a cave-in who spend Christmas Eve swapping stories to keep their spirits up.
