AROUND TOWN: DAR continues tradition, honors 'Good Citizen' students

Their local history dates back to 1895 and continues today as the Zebulon Pike Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution has named 19 graduating high school seniors as recipients of the Good Citizens Award.

The award and scholarship contest was created nationally in 1934 “to reward the qualities of good citizenship.” Students chosen for dependability, service, leadership and patriotism wrote timed essays on “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility in Preserving it,” and Justin Ramsey of Coronado High School received the chapter scholarship. He will compete on the state level.
