Birgitta De Pree, voters' choice for Best actress.

Best of the Springs 2012: Actress

Best of the Springs 2012: Actress
Gold: Birgitta De Pree
Through the years, De Pree has established herself as a confident director, educator and dauntless organizer of the Six Women Playwriting Festival. She’s also beloved as a performer in the Millibo Art Theatre’s run of children’s productions, many of which go into schools. Perhaps no role inspires an audience’s glee like her Babette Matdiva, the stylish Eastern European host of many Millibo Art Theatre events. In Babette, De Pree’s wit, her genius at ad-lib and ability to embody character not only charm but have virtually established Babette as a person in her own right.

Silver: Lacey Maynard
Bronze: Sally Hybl

Tracy Mobley-Martinez' expert pick: Actress
Alysabeth Clements Mosley
If you go to local theater, you likely know this actor/director’s work. But you remember it because she consistently brings authenticity
and nuance — even a gritty elegance, when required — to her roles, which this year included Springs Ensemble Theatre’s “Coronado,” Star Bar Players’ “Bug” and recently, “Empty Plate at the Cafe du Grand Beouf.” She does troubled ladies well, but my favorite this year had to be her brief but memorable appearance in “Empty Plate.” Her Louise shimmered with tenderness and fragility. Amazing.
