A chance to adopt an entire family
Most holiday giving opportunities never allow the donor to see directly what happens with their donation. Community Partnership for Child Development’s Adopt-A-Family program, launched on Nov. 1, is different and gives donors the opportunity to witness firsthand who is receiving their donation.
Through the program, donors “adopt” an entire family for the holidays and make contributions based on their needs list that is posted on the CPCD Web site. Donors then bring the items to CPCD’s main office and are encouraged to return when their adopted family picks up the gifts.
Donors have until Dec. 8 to adopt any of the 81 remaining families. Over 120 families have already been adopted.
The families available for adoption are those who have children enrolled in CPCD programs. Ninety percent of CPCD families live below the federal poverty line. While enrolled in CPCD programs, children receive education and comprehensive services such as health screenings, nutrition education and speech and motor skill therapy.
Those interested in participating should visit CPCD’s Web site at www.cpcdheadstart.org and click on the Adopt-A-Family link. Once registered, donors can view family profiles and select a family (or families) for adoption. Donors may personally shop for the family based on their needs and wish lists or make a cash donation and leave the shopping to volunteers. Utility vouchers, car seats, holiday food baskets and other donation options are listed as well.
