After 37 years, Newborn Hope Fashion Show is the place to be

Even after 37 years, Newborn Hope has retained its place as a have-to event of the holiday season. And over all these years it continues to raise millions of dollars to make differences in the lives of babies, particularly premature babies.

Scaling back to one luncheon/fashion show on Dec. 11, instead of two, the all-volunteer Newborn Hope corps drew a sold-out, well-dressed crowd of 750 to Broadmoor International Center and raised at least $100,000.

Jason Moore shared the story of his tiny, blond daughter, Haley, who chattered at Dad from her seat after they had walked the runway together. The active little girl, now 20 months old, was born at 28 weeks and weighed 1 pound, 12 ounces.

Following father and daughter — Mom Nichole Moore was on bed rest awaiting the birth of their second daughter —  on their runway excursion were the women in scrubs that co-emcee Shannon Brinias called “the true heroes,” the nurses from the Memorial and Penrose-St. Francis neonatal intensive care units. There were tears in the audience and running down the faces of the nurses as cheers followed them all along their walk.

After lunch, the models took to the runway. First came the traditional ah-inspiring group of young sons and daughters of Newborn Hope volunteers wearing the season’s cutest looks.

They were followed by professional models, including some ab-blessed males who played to the mostly female audience.

Fashions came from Colorado Co-Op, David’s Bridal, 4 Bar Western and Work, Gloss, Kirk & Hill, Kohl’s, Mountain Moppets, Puttogether, Regina’s Unique Boutique, Shops at The Broadmoor, Tuxedo Junction and William Kurtz, Ltd., with hair and makeup by A Total New You and J. Gregory Salon.

Fashion show producers were Sally Hybl,  Traci McCreary and Michelle Reich.

Chairmen Marianne Mason and Crista Muchmore introduced 2010 co-chairs Sarah Ross and Chris Schneider.
