The only such figure found in the Antechamber, this shabit is one of the largest of the servant statuettes. The inscription records the shabti spell from the Book of the Dead, ensuring that the king would do no forced labor in the afterlife.

Denver Art Museum King Tut tickets go on sale

Denver Art Museum

Tickets to Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs go on sale to the public May 14. King Tutopens July 1 at the Denver Art Museum (DAM) for its exclusive Rocky Mountain appearance. Visitors will be able to explore the splendor of the pharaohs through more than 100 spectacular objects spanning 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history. Among other stunning works on view is the largest image of King Tut ever unearthed—a 10-foot statue of the pharaoh found at the remains of the funerary temple of two of his high officials. The statue (pictured at left) still retains much of its original paint.

The boy king has fascinated the world since his tomb was discovered in the 1920s. Speculation about his life and cause of death has continued ever since. Just this year, scientific research was published in the February issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association that concluded the 19-year-old pharaoh’s death was caused by a combination of a genetic bone disorder, an infected fractured leg and a form of malaria. Take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to investigate the life and art of King Tut at the Denver Art Museum.
