Shannon Brinias leaving KKTV

THE GAZETTE

Shannon Brinias, co-anchor of the KKTV/Channel 11 5:30 and 10 p.m. newscasts with Don Ward, is leaving the station. She has accepted the main anchor position at KOVR in Sacramento, Calif.

"It's a great opportunity for her," said KKTV general manager Nick Matesi. "We hate to see her go, as her contributions to our newscasts over the years have been invaluable, as have her contributions to the non-profit community. I know it's bittersweet for her as well. Again, though, it's not very often you get a main anchor position in a top 20 market, so I don't blame her one bit for taking the opportunity."

Networks own stations in many larger markets and KOVR is owned and operated by CBS. KKTV is a CBS affiliate owned by Gray Television.

Brinias has been a member of the KKTV news team since 2006. During her time in Colorado Springs she has not only served as an anchor but has been very involved in local charities, most notably with the March of Dimes, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and the American Heart Association. Her last day at KKTV is March 6.

"I don't think I can ever put into words how grateful our family is for the welcome and warmth that the community has shown us ever since we moved here six years ago," said Brinias. "I always knew it would take a lot to convince me to leave this great place and great station but the opportunity to advance within CBS was too exciting to pass up. I'll miss everyone here terribly. KKTV is like a family. While I'm very sad to leave Colorado Springs and the fantastic team here, I'm looking forward to working at a station that has a such great reputation in the market, KOVR CBS 13."
