Louis Cicotello Retrospective Exhibition at GOCA1420 opens February 2, 2012
Colorado Springs, CO. 1/11/12 — The UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art will open a significant retrospective for artist Louis Cicotello on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the campus gallery, GOCA1420. A public reception will kick off the exhibit from 5 - 8 pm; the exhibit is on display through March 29, 2012. This retrospective exhibition features artworks from 1971 - 2008, highlighting the significant periods in Cicotello’s prolific and fascinating art career. A 72- page, full color catalog publication will accompany the exhibition.
Cicotello was well-known and beloved regionally, having moved to Colorado Springs from Kansas City, MO. in 1984 to serve as Chair of the Visual Arts Department at UCCS. Cicotello was Professor of Fine Arts through 2007 at UCCS and inspired countless students in their own careers. As an artist, Cicotello pushed the boundaries of the media he worked with—from human-scale plexiglass towers of his early years to mixed-media assemblage, collage, and free-standing sculpture. This survey will feature work that has rarely been seen in regional exhibitions, with multiple collectors loaning their work from across the country for this exhibition. Three lectures will accompany the exhibit, featuring former students speaking about Cicotello’s impact on their art careers and lives.
