EATS Downtown favorite Shuga's is on the road
If you’ve watched Food Network lately, you would know that food trucks are taking the nation by storm. An upcoming addition: Shuga’s Restaurant, 702 S. Cascade Ave., is going mobile.
“We want to bring the food to the people,” says Shuga's co-ownder Kurt Bunch.
Bunch and his wife Alexius wanted to create an extension of what Shuga’s already is - an artsy cafe with a splash of culinary flair.
At this point, it seems like an obvious venture for Shuga’s.” Alexius says. “We want to have a little more presence at a different location.”
Shuga’s partnered with local muralist Douglas Rouse and his wife Mallori on the visuals of their food truck. Regulars at Shuga’s, they seemed the obvious choice for making the truck memorable.
After a few conversations and some brainstorming, the two couples were able to visualize something which would represent what Shuga's was all about.
“Shuga’s inspired the origami feel to the whole truck,” Rouse says. “It was as simple as Shuga’s having the origami floating around the restaurant.”
“We like the fact that he can make three-dimensional things seem so real,” Kurt says. “The concept translated really well to the truck.”
The truck is not on the road just yet. Kurt and Alexius are putting on the final touches and gathering the last of the licenses needed for hitting the road.
“We’re hoping within the next few months,” Alexius says.
