Live the ski lift experience in your back yard

For anyone who has ever wanted to feel like they’re riding a lift while relaxing in the yard:

Arapahoe Basin is selling 100 chairs from the 1978 Exhibition Lift, which is being replaced this summer with a high-speed quad to be called the Black Mountain Express.

The Summit County ski area is selling the chairs for $450, first-come, first-served, at its website, starting at 8 a.m. on May 1. The chairs can be picked up June 11 and 12.

Get details here.

You’ll need a pickup truck or similar vehicle to bring the chair home.

I for one welcome the idea of spending summer evenings watching the sun set over the peak from the comfort of a 32-year-old ski lift chair.

Allow me to offer a few more ideas for replicating the ski lift experience with your new A-Basin lift chair:

- Have a snowboarder from the nearest high school stop by and smoke a cigarette next to you without asking if you mind.

- Hoot and holler when your neighbor takes a fall while pulling weeds.

- Pretend the lift has stopped running, inexplicably, for 10 minutes and sit there with nothing to do.

- Call every person you know and ask where they are at that very moment.

- Invite a stranger over, have an intimate conversation for 8 minutes and then never see them again.

- Invite a Texan over and laugh as they try to get on and fall.
