EVER WONDER: Who in the world was the Waldo Canyon Waldo?

During the Waldo Canyon Fire we started wondering who Waldo was or is. We know where Waldo is, but not who. Can you help?

- the Moore family

ANSWER: We didn't find a particularly romantic answer for you. The Forest Service says that two miles from the start of the trail there is a meadow near a stream. It's reportedly the location of the former Waldo Hog Ranch, hence its name.

The trail, now closed because of the fire, was started by an inter-regional fire fighting crew stationed in Pike National Forest and the last three miles were completed in 1971 by the Pike National Forest Youth Conservation Corps. The hog ranch was long-ago history by that time.

This has become one of the most popular trails in the Pike National Forest system.
