Want to watch this week's skating championships? Better have DirecTV
Thursday through Sunday (Feb. 9-12), World Arena, 3185 Venetucci Blvd., $9-$25; 576-2626, worldarena.com, DirecTV channel 652
The 2012 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships take place this Thursday through Sunday (2/9/12 - 2/12/12), right in our own backyard at the World Arena in Colorado Springs. Tickets for the event are inexpensive, starting at $9, but if you can't attend in person, chances are you may be out of luck if you're hoping to catch the championships on television.
You can only see Cheyenne Mountain High School student and 2012 U.S. Championships bronze medalist Agnes Zawadzki, 2012 U.S. Champion Ashley Wagner, and 2012 U.S. silver medalist Adam Rippon from home if you have DirecTV.
The championships are being aired on Universal Sports, and DirecTV is currently the only provider to carry it as a basic network. Comcast and Dish Network subscribers are out of luck.
Fans can subscribe to watch the event live on universalsports.com or on icenetwork.com, but it'll cost you. Universal Sports charges $9.95 to watch the championships online. Icenetwork.com has several packages that start at $5.95 (for season pass subscribers) and then go up from there.
