THE GAZETTE
“Honeydripper” (2007) — Danny Glover and Charles Dutton prove utterly authentic and entirely believable as two old friends hanging out in a decrepit, dying blues club in Jim Crow-era Alabama, heading toward ruin.
They latch onto one shot at salvation, bringing in Guitar Sam, a hot, rising star everybody’s been swooning over on the radio.
This sweaty, languid John Sayles drama not only features some of the best music you’ll hear in film, it also tells a potent story about racism, redemption and the birth of the blues.
