America Ferrera, the versatile actress who first became famous as Carmen in the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” films and later earned both a Golden Globe and an Emmy as the star of the successful ABC comedy series “Ugly Betty,” will be in Colorado Springs on Thursday for the Colorado premiere of her latest film, “The Dry Land.”
A selection at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, “The Dry Land” tells the story of an Iraq War veteran who struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder after returning to his home in rural Texas. The film has not been rated by the MPAA but is recommended for mature audiences only.
Both a private military and public screening will be offered. Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the makers of the film, who have just returned from a USO tour in the Persian Gulf. This includes Ferrera, who also served as executive producer on the film, director/screenwriter Ryan Piers Willliams and Ferrara’s co-stars Wilmer Valderrama (“That 70’s Show”) and Ryan O’Nan.
Tickets for the public screening are available one hour before the screening starts, but it’s strongly recommended that filmgoers reserve tickets in advance by calling Lindy Williams at 385-0085.
