The group became famous in the early 1990s and was one of the more successful acts of the decade, with 16 top 10 Billboard songs, including "Man in the Box" and "Check My Brain." When lead vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002 of an overdose, the group disbanded until 2005, when they returned with a number of guest vocalists. William DuVall became the permanent frontman in 2006 and the group released new albums in 2009 and 2013.
